Wed. Bible Studies: What My Children Must Know (Week 2)

A CHILD MUST BE WARNED OF PEOPLE
Solomon goes out of his way to teach many times on the different types of people there are and warns his son to stay away from and to watch out for them.  Solomon knows in his wisdom that people don’t mess up because of something.  People mess up because of someone.   The Bible says in Galatians 5:7, “Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth?” It wasn’t a thing that hindered them, it was a person that hindered them.

Solomon warns his son about the foolish man, the wicked man, the evil man, the cruel man, the slothful man, the wrathful man, the ungodly man, the furious man, the mad man, the deceitful man, the violent man, the froward man, and the angry man.  He warns his son about the foolish woman, the strange woman, the evil woman, the whorish woman, the brawling woman, the odious woman, the angry woman and a contentious woman.  It is amazing how many people Solomon warns his son about.  So many people don’t want to be guilty of “judging” someone; they would rather let their children mess up their life by not warning them about the wrong types of people.

Day 1 - Prov 4:14-17  Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men.  Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away.  For they sleep not, except they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall.  For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.
There are some wicked people out there who just aren’t happy unless they are messing up their life and trying to destory the lives of others.  We must teach our children about them.

Day 2 - Prov 14:7  Go from the presence of a foolish man, when thou perceivest not in him the lips of knowledge.
We are to teach our children to leave when they see that a man is foolish and does not talk with knowledge.

Day 3 - Prov 13:20  He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.
We need to teach our children that even if they are not doing anything wrong, but are hanging around with the wrong crowd, they will be destroyed along with them.  This is a hard thing for people to understand, but this is true.  For the last ten years I have preached at our local county jail.  One of the biggest reasons someone is there is they really didn’t do anything, but they were with someone who committed a crime.  According to the law, this is accessory to a crime and you are guilty.  God’s word is true – even if we just hang around fools, our lives will be messed up in the process.

Day 4 - Prov 22:24-25 Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go: Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul.
If we allow our children to make friendship with a person who is angry, they will become like them.

Day 5 - Prov 16:27-29 An ungodly man diggeth up evil: and in his lips there is as a burning fire. A froward man soweth strife: and a whisperer separateth chief friends. A violent man enticeth his neighbour, and leadeth him into the way that is not good.
In these three verses, Solomon teaches his son what an ungodly man will do, what a froward man will do and what a violent man will do.  Our children must know what to look for to avoid it.

Day 6 - Prov 2:16 To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words;
Solomon warns his son as much about the wrong kind of woman as the wrong kind of men.  A wrong woman can mess up a man faster than just about anything.  Make sure they understand this.

Day 7 - Prov 21:9 It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman in a wide house.
Solomon goes out of his way to paint a mental picture of how horrible it is to live with a brawling woman.  Teach your son not to even date a girl who has a bad temper.  It will be used on him one day.
