Missions Conference 2010

This picture was taken a few years ago on a missions trip to the Philippines with my son, Dr. Mike Wells and crew.  The picture is of Dr. Armie Jesalva, his son Kent and family.  In the background is a start of a new church.  That church has been built now and they are doing a great job.

It is so important that we support missions and get the gospel to the world.  So many people are wrapped up in their life and problems, which are nothing compared to the world that is dying and going to hell.  They desperately need us to give and to go.

Starting Wednesday night, December 1st, we will be holding a Missions Conference at our church.  We will have missionaries from Nigeria, Papua New Guinea, Mexico and Thailand.  As I have said often, "If they are willing to leave their families and country to get the gospel to the world, shouldn't we be able to give up a few nights of TV to support them?"  Every night a different missionary will be presenting their work, and Bro. Gensaw will be preaching.  He is a delightful preacher and has spent over a dozen years on the mission field.  I know you will enjoy it. Please come and bring some friends.

I grew up in a Baptist church my whole life, and all the time growing up I heard people talk about missionaries and we took an occasional offering for a missionary, but I never saw a real live missionary.  At this conference it will be different.

Here is the schedule:

Wednesday 7:00 p.m.
Thursday 7:00 p.m.
Friday 7:00 p.m.
Saturday 5:30 p.m.  (International Dinner - bring food)
Sunday 10:00 a.m. Sunday school
Sunday 11:00 a.m. Morning service
Sunday 6:00 p.m. Evening service

Please try to attend every service you can.

Wed. Bible Studies: What My Children Must Know (Week1)

OBEY AND LISTEN TO YOUR PARENTS
Day 1—Prov 1:8 My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother:
Day 2—Prov 2:1 My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;
Day 3—Prov 3:1 My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments:
Day 4—Prov 4:10 Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many.
Day 5—Prov. 4:20 My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.
Day 6—Prov 5:1 My son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my understanding:
Day 7—Prov 7:1 My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee.
  • Our children must listen to us, or they will not have a chance.
  • Most children don’t hear and many parents don’t make them listen.
  • Get their attention first
  • Make sure you have eye contact
  • Have them repeat back to you what you said
  • Watch for any attitudes that are given when you tell them something to do….don’t let them get an attitude
  • Give them things to see if they will listen, check up on them
  • Play a listening and obeying game
  • Partial obedience is disobedience
  • Make sure you start early and expect them to obey (Mrs. Wesley thought she had failed if her children were not obeying by 18 months old.)
  • Tell them good reasons why they should obey (Solomon did that)
  • You make sure you obey and listen to your FATHER’S words

New Blog: Sharing My Heart In Order to Help Others With Life

This picture was taken of my pastor, Dr. Jack Hyles, and me when I had first started pastoring, over seventeen years ago.  Someone else took the picture and gave it to me years later.  I had gone to Bro. Hyles at a pastors luncheon to ask him questions, and he was so gracious to take the time to share his heart and to help me with my life and ministry.

That is what I want this blog to be.  I will be sharing from my heart things about marriage, children, church and serving the Lord.  I hope something that is said here will be a help to you, as my pastor's words were to me.

Right now, my Wednesday night Bible studies are on, "What Our Children Must Know."  I will be putting the outlines on this blog.  There are a lot of things I want my children to know, but there are some things they have to know.  Solomon wrote the book of Proverbs to teach his son everything that he needed to know.  I have 52 topics laid out for the whole year, and on each Bible study, I have laid out the topic into seven different days.  The goal of the lessons is for you to teach your children this topic for the week, and to use a different verse and principle every day.  I know they work, and pray they will be a blessing to you.

Feel free to e-mail me at pastorbakerblog@gmail.com if you have any questions you would like me to address on the blog or to email you directly.
