OBEY AND LISTEN TO YOUR PARENTS
Day 1—Prov 1:8 My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother:
Day 2—Prov 2:1 My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;
Day 3—Prov 3:1 My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments:
Day 4—Prov 4:10 Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many.
Day 5—Prov. 4:20 My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.
Day 6—Prov 5:1 My son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my understanding:
Day 7—Prov 7:1 My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee.
- Our children must listen to us, or they will not have a chance.
- Most children don’t hear and many parents don’t make them listen.
- Get their attention first
- Make sure you have eye contact
- Have them repeat back to you what you said
- Watch for any attitudes that are given when you tell them something to do….don’t let them get an attitude
- Give them things to see if they will listen, check up on them
- Play a listening and obeying game
- Partial obedience is disobedience
- Make sure you start early and expect them to obey (Mrs. Wesley thought she had failed if her children were not obeying by 18 months old.)
- Tell them good reasons why they should obey (Solomon did that)
- You make sure you obey and listen to your FATHER’S words
